Andrew Ickes, associate director of development for leadership gifts at Virginia Tech, joined the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC as its director of development.
He will report to Michael Friedlander, Virginia Tech’s vice president for health sciences and executive director of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, and Kim Blair, Virginia Tech’s assistant vice president of advancement in Roanoke.
“Andrew has performed at a high level in each of his former positions at Virginia Tech,” said Friedlander. “As the research institute continues to grow and we recruit new researchers, Andrew’s role is essential to ensuring we continue building much-needed philanthropic support for the institute’s expansion.”
Ickes will work closely with other members of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute’s advancement team, including development associate Logan Quesenbery, director of communications John Pastor, and assistant director of communications Whitney Slightham.
“We are delighted and excited about Andrew taking on this new important role with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute,” said Blair. “Not only does Andrew bring impressive fundraising credentials, but he also shares an incredible passion for biomedical research and the desire to share the work of our talented researchers here at the institute with our Virginia Tech alumni, local community members, and people across the country who are interested in supporting research that will positively impact the health and lives of so many.”
Before joining Virginia Tech’s advancement team in 2016, Ickes served as a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America, where he was responsible for fundraising and recruitment. Prior to working in development, he worked in talent recruitment, and municipal elections roles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Virginia Tech.
