New Fralin Biomedical scientist explores how metabolism, stress alter gene expression in heart cells

Jessica Pfleger, a new faculty member at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, studies how lifestyle factors, such as stress and diet, alter the genes and proteins involved in heart disease progression.

Her laboratory will explore how common risk factors for heart disease – such as obesity, insulin resistance, and high blood pressure – alter gene expression in the heart.
