Virginia Western Community College’s School of Career and Corporate Training announces the launch of a new Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program in January 2020. This CNA program, which is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing, will prepare students with the knowledge and skills they need in less than 6 weeks to pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam and become certified as a Nurse Aide.

CNAs are in extreme demand in the Roanoke Region as
hospitals, home health agencies, rehabilitation centers, and
nursing homes are experiencing shortages. Employment as a CNA is also a great
step to a career in patient care and nursing. Duties may include measuring
patient vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living such as
bathing and dressing, and safely transferring patients.

“I am so thrilled to help start this new program at
Virginia Western so more students in the Roanoke Region can find rewarding
careers in healthcare,” said Gigi Mulhauser, the
program head. “I frequently hear from employers about how eager they are to
find qualified employees with a desire to take the next step in their careers.”

The first session of the new CNA program begins on Jan. 6,
2020. More class starts will be offered in the spring and will be scheduled year-round. To find out more, applicants can call (540) 857-6076 or visit: https://virginiawestern.edu/workforce/programs/health.php.

As part of the CNA program, students will spend time in
the state-of-the-art nursing labs at Virginia Western as well as on-site with
local employers. They will have networking opportunities to help secure
employment upon graduation.

“At Raleigh Court Health & Rehabilitation Center, we
do more than just care for patients, we
care about them
. We are thrilled to collaborate with Virginia Western
Community College to create meaningful learning opportunities for students of
the nurse aide program,” said Chance Craft, administrator at Raleigh Court
Health & Rehabilitation Center.
